Lucy – Children and Families Prison Visit Volunteer

I was initially inspired to volunteer through my university course, which advised expanding my CV content. However, it has become a more rewarding and enjoyable experience than I originally anticipated.

Volunteering with LAT at HMP Lincoln is an enjoyable way to boost confidence and people skills as well as contribute to and benefit the community. The entire process of becoming a volunteer is simple thanks to the friendly help of the LAT staff who are quick to respond to any queries.

Roles within the prison do involve challenges as everyone that walks through the visitation doors is different with their own story, but it is so rewarding to be able to sit and speak to such a variety of people and make the process as easy as possible for them.

Overall, I would 100% recommend volunteering for LAT due to it providing me with a deeper understanding of the prison system and a new outlook that I would otherwise not have experienced.
