Sam – LAT Volunteering Success Story

Sam is a Volunteer with Lincolnshire Action Trust and has discovered his passion for helping others as a result. Since working with us he has decided he would like to gain a career in this sector following the volunteering opportunities he has undertaken. Sam now has a job working for a local recovery organisation and we reflected on this together as well as celebrated his success!

 

  1. How long have you been volunteering with LAT?

I’ve been volunteering with LAT now for 3 years

 

  1. Why did you decide to volunteer with LAT? 

I was doing the peer mentor training at Lincoln probation and heard about LAT and thought I’d see what LAT was about met with the team and I decided I wanted the opportunity to mentor and gain knowledge and experience volunteering with LAT

 

  1. What type of volunteering have carried out with LAT? 

I started off 1 on 1 mentoring along with doing any training opportunities that were available then I started attending the men’s wellbeing group down at the bridge supporting and help facilitate just trying to be a good role model and setting a good example for the group

 

  1. ⁠What’s been your favourite thing about volunteering with LAT?

My favourite thing about volunteering is being supported by the team at LAT and being given the opportunity to help others in my community using my lived experiences also doing the events/ and guest speaking.

 

  1. ⁠Congratulations on getting paid employment in this sector! If so, how has volunteering helped you get to this point?

Volunteering has helped me grow as a person and gain knowledge and experience that gives me the confidence to fulfill my potential and achieve my goals also it has helped me build relationships and a network of all different of people and services

 

  1. ⁠If anyone asked you what are the benefits of volunteering with LAT what would you say? 

I’d say that they’re a great organisation that supports you and gives you the opportunity to progress, the people at LAT are great! It’s volunteering personalised around what you want to do and achieve.
