Lincolnshire Action Trust (LAT), which last year supported almost 2,500 prisoners and their families, can now help even more offenders to break the cycle of crime.
The charity has recruited five new staff to offer additional support through its range of rehabilitation programmes and mentoring schemes as well as a new website to improve access to information about the services available.
Alison Goddard, LAT Chief Executive, said: “We’re dedicated to supporting offenders and the families of offenders before, during and after serving their sentence. Our new members of staff will enable us to support people much more effectively.
“As well as providing helpful information about the prison service and what people can expect at different stages, the new website will allow families to access details and contact information for those services which we run specifically for them including our Young Oasis programme.”
The SPARC team, which provides initial assessment and support to those people who have been sentenced at Lincoln Magistrates Court or Lincoln Crown Court has been boosted by the arrival of Erena Rawlins and Teri Kilpin.
The pair will join the team that acts as the first point of call for people who may not have expected to have received a prison sentence and who need practical support to obtain medical prescriptions, arrange childcare, alert landlords to maintain tenancy and put provisions in place to care for pets.
There are also two new additions to the CF03 project, which focuses solely on the support of prisoners, assessing their individual needs in areas including employment, accommodation, health, mental health, debt and relationships.
James Moore and Kate Fox will join CF03 as case managers and will be responsible for assessing offenders and delivering support and training sessions or signposting offenders to specialist organisations who can work with them to improve their opportunities upon release.
James will work in HMP Lincoln and Kate will be based in HMP Stocken.
Meanwhile at the FIRST Centre next to HMP Lincoln, Anzelika Lorkievicz will deliver the MOVE employability project, which aims to support the partners of offenders by equipping them with the skills required to improve their job prospects.
MOVE will deliver intensive sessions over a six to eight-month programme aimed at building confidence, increasing motivation and enhancing employability skills.
These latest additions to the Lincolnshire Action Trust bring the total number of employees to 28.
