Saturday 8th March is International Women’s Day (IWD), a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
The theme this year is #Accelerate Action and the aim of the campaign is to deliver a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources and activity that positively impact women's advancement, and to support their implementation.
It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the barriers to gender equality and biases that women face, both in personal and professional roles. Yet with the right action and support, positive progress can be made for women everywhere.
International Women’s Day has been around for over 100 years, as have many of the issues still impacting women's advancement. Since 1911, IWD has been focused on women’s equality, raising awareness about discrimination, celebrating women’s achievements and taking action to forge gender parity.
Through our Women RISE project we are celebrating IWD with a special event at our women’s centre on 10th March.
Women RISE project supports women, across Lincolnshire, who may be experiencing issues such as difficult emotions, isolation, challenging relationships, financial worries, exploitation, addiction and mental health issues. It provides safe and confidential women-only spaces where women and girls can access a range of support and help to access services they need.
The focus of the event will be to explore the role of mentoring in accelerating action. We will share stories that demonstrate how we have built each other up and supported women. Hearing about lived experiences will help to guide and empower the next generation of young women in Lincolnshire at risk of involvement with the criminal justice system.
Together we can support the advancement of women and girls.
