Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) has a core principle that women involved in the criminal justice system require a bespoke service to respond appropriately to their needs in order to desist from offending.
Women in the criminal justice system tend to have experienced much higher rates of childhood and adult trauma than women in the general population, and this is often associated with high risk behaviours such as substance use, sex work and mental health disorders. There is an emerging evidence base to show that these women respond better in women-only environments where they feel safe, where rehabilitation and self efficacy are core principles, and where services are sensitive to the contextual situation than can affect a women’s ability to engage, such as childcare, lack of transport and mental health.
Lincolnshire Action Trust is therefore delighted to be working Minstry of Justice to deliver a women’s service for the Greater Lincolnshire area. We offer a range of one-to-one and group delivery, working with women both pre-release and in the community.
